Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Renato Solpietro, Founder of NAPOLI THAT'S AMORE, located in Portland, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a private Chef, and I teach people how to cook 100% Authentic Italian food like fresh pasta, potato gnocchi, ravioli, or desserts like Tiramisu. I also cook for private events and pizza parties. Always traditional Italian food, family recipes, or my own creations.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in a family where food is a sort of religion and always animated by a healthy competition for the best dish. When I arrived in the USA, I wanted to give a little of my knowledge to my tablemates, and so I started to teach for fun, just for fun, but then I received more and more requests, so I decided to open my business and spread some authentic Italian culture in terms of cuisine and curiosities linked to our recipes.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think that the biggest and hardest accomplishment for me was (and is) to be 100% Authentic Italian with no "IFS" or "BUTS." To cook like I am in Naples or Rome, to cook thinking I am serving very strict Italian judges - like my family, for example.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I love to be a business owner, even if it is not easy at all. Being a business owner means that YOU are in charge of everything, so YOU better be ready for a plane B or C. No excuses, always aware, and, most of all, super positive: NO PROBLEMS, JUST SOLUTIONS!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always be Positive, and have fun.
  2. Study a lot ( according to your business ).
  3. Do not panic when you have a lot of complications; it is part of the game!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you have the right preparation, the right attitude, and you HAVE FUN, then it is almost impossible to fail!
