What's your business, and who are your customers?
Candy and confections, all handmade and custom crafted. We are your old-fashioned candy shop, still making our products on sight and in small batches after 42 years.
Tell us about yourself
I’m a second generation, candy maker, mom, and wife. I’ve been in the business off and on since I was eight years old. 12 years ago, I moved the business forward online, in production, all while keeping the core of quality and consistency. My motivation comes from the joy in those who buy, receive, or gift our products. It’s that small smile and twinkle of the eye after they take one bite. It motivates me to see new generations trying out candy.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Taking a brick-and-mortar to online and continuing to provide jobs in a city that has seen its share of ups and downs. I’m still willing to support small brands and see mine grow too. Success comes in small steps. My rewards come in seeing long-term employees grow too.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a business owner is not for the faint of heart. My challenges can be moments of transition due to economic changes, supply chains, water outages, or employees. Plus, being a mom, you must account for family first. Every day is new, but I love to problem-solve. So the hardest moments are the most rewarding.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be ready to pivot!
- Listen to others, but go with your gut. You must live and learn from the challenges.
- Try new things. Learn more about new products and new ways to improve.
