What's your business, and who are your customers?
LADIES FIRST GAME. The best therapy your money can buy! Ladies First Game is a Card Game for women with questions encompassing all relationships and dating-related experiences it is for ladies of all marital statuses. Despite being a card game created for women 18 years and older, generations X, Y, and even Baby Boomers have shown great interest in the product. Even more than generation Z. The primary goal of the card game is to have a great time with friends while deepening connections and sharing experiences. In a more profound sense, Ladies First Game has created a safe space for women to share, creating a relatable and fun atmosphere.
Tell us about yourself
As a writer, I have always been intrigued by the being. I do a lot of self-search. With that, I've become the person all friends come to for advice. Having experienced rejection as a child and difficult adolescence with a father diagnosed with terminal cancer, to survive, I learned the importance of sharing and communicating my feelings and thoughts to make the pain more tolerable. The greatest lessons I've learned during the most challenging years of my life were that friends are vital and that laughter eases pain and stress.
This game was created to rescue a "Divorce Party" from going downhill. It intended to allow all guests, including the host, to share personal experiences. More than fun, it became therapeutic. When women play Ladies First Game, they disconnect from life's craziness and have a good time, a moment to focus on themselves, relate to others, and share experiences; it inspires me to reach more women who deserve to have a good time. Being a woman is hard for many reasons, and in a digital Era, we all can appreciate creating more profound connections.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Thus far, my most significant accomplishment as a business owner is meeting people for the first time, playing my game with them, and having a proven concept by, in less than a few days, having women reach out to me privately to share experiences, circumstances in their lives where men made them feel uncomfortable vulnerable. Unfortunately, many women have stories like that to share. They can't find a person they can trust to open up. Having people trust me is something no money in the world can buy. I have been told I was a role model and that I inspire women to stand up for themselves. I want all women to know we are not physically powerless against men. My testimony is proof of it. Self-defense classes back me up.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is not second-guessing myself. But I have learned that making mistakes is part of the process.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Trust your gut and go for it! Make it happen. If it doesn't work out, at least you tried. Better than quitting before giving it a chance.
- Learn to feel comfortable outside of your comfort zone. Staying outside of the tangent will take you places.
- Ask questions! Don't believe everything you are told. Ask as many questions as you need. Many people will tell you whatever they think you want to hear so that they can get your money. Not everyone is genuine and honest. It's rough out there. Be prepared to deal with all sorts of people. Think of business as the beginning of a relationship. Everything is perfect and beautiful in the beginning until it's not anymore. Before hiring companies and agencies, please research and learn as much as possible, so you don't get fooled like I did several times.
