Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nancy Ganzekaufer, Author, Speaker, and Business Coach, based in Huntington, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a Business & Life Coach to Interior Designers, I specialize in teaching them to maximize their profitability while identifying and best serving their ideal clients with confidence. In effect, I become a "business partner" who helps them develop the most straightforward path to higher scalability, visibility, and profitability through confident decision-making, efficient systems development, and effective communication.

Tell us about yourself

About 30 years ago, I was managing over 150 people as the First Vice President of the Dime Savings Bank in New York. I made the decision to step down to shift my focus to raising my three children. As they got a little older, I decided to go back into the business to keep myself occupied! I started out selling my mother's watercolor paintings at "home art parties." I was working a whole lot and making very little. So many people told me to quit, but I knew I was onto something.

From there, my first business, Expressive Living, was born, providing value to homeowners and interior designers who needed art, framing, and accessories. I did this successfully for 17 years, but I couldn't get away from the thought that I could do so much more for people. I wanted to use everything I'd learned throughout my career & life to help entrepreneurs and business owners succeed and achieve their dreams. I decided to hire a business coach to help me get to the next step, and all the pieces came together. I found my calling.

From the time I was a little girl, my family said I had the gift of gab. They were right! Now I'm using that gift, combined with my experience, to help others achieve their dreams while achieving mine as well.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It took me just over a year as a business coach to hit 6-figures (while still running my first business and managing four employees). I have used my own formula for success to help thousands of entrepreneurs reach their own pinnacle of success!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is trying to run the business while also trying to grow the business. It is possible to do both successfully with the right strategies, support, accountability, and mindset in place.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Invest in a coach who can direct you to the activities that will increase your pipeline, profitability, and overall success.
  2. Work on making your life well-balanced and happy with a mix of work, family, and activities that keep you motivated.
  3. Charge your worth and create the service and experience for the client that supports the fees.
