Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mae Alexis, Founder of Nanala Cove, located in Palmetto, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nanala Cove is a safe haven and light source for anyone on a self-love journey towards living their healthiest, happiest & BEST lives.

Tell us about yourself

After experiencing the greatest heartbreak of my life, it was as though my eyes had finally opened- for the first time since I was a young child. It felt like a veil had lifted. Like the magic eye, it had finally come into focus. You know, like those nonsensical pictures they have in the Newspaper comics- that only makes sense once your vision has shifted, just so? But, at the same time, this perspective shift came with an overpowering sense of panic, turmoil, confusion, loneliness & despair. Because the journey to self-love & true self-living is not always easy or comfortable. In fact, it can be quite scary- and it DOES require you to venture outside of your comfort zones. But thankfully... I finally found peace and direction when the thought I just needed to "create my own sunshine" came into my mind. And so, Nanala Cove was born.

The name "Nanala Cove" means "Sun Gazer's Shelter." And that's because it's a safe place for self-empowerment, self-becoming, self-love, and growth. My motivation for living? I love helping others tear down their self-limiting beliefs while embracing their darkness so they can shine as their best and truest selves. Not only am I helping others grow, but teaching and learning is a two-way road. We learn and grow together- regardless of who is actually doing the "teaching." And personally, I just love that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We're coming up on our second anniversary, actually! So, that feels like a pretty huge accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing, I'd say, is being able to listen to your own inner wisdom & following your dreams- even when everything externally is telling you not to. Because the truth is, many people will tell you how hard it is to run a business- they'll say that the market is oversaturated or that "most new businesses fail." And yes, there are taxes to worry about, overhead costs, inevitable failures & unexpected detours. It's also not guaranteed to be successful within the first few or even several months, etc.

But!!! What I learned is that all these perceived "hurdles" are merely stepping stones to building the successful business of your dreams. And as such, they should be welcomed & embraced- and viewed as such.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Hire a business coach or mentor if it's within your budget! Get super specific about what you want & pour that specificity into your business. And treat this like your baby- take care of it, love it & celebrate every little milestone along the way!
