Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nelin Krull, co-owner and founder of Myofascial Release Mississauga, located in Mississauga, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Myofascial Release Mississauga is a multidisciplinary health clinic offering Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy, Osteopathy, and Traditional Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture. What sets us apart is our emphasis on the application of Sustained Pressure Myofascial Release. This gentle and low load technique is safe and effective at getting to the root cause of your pain regardless of how long you have been suffering to go back to living a healthy and pain-free life. By focusing on identifying the underlying imbalances in alignment, movement, and even thinking patterns, our therapists can approach each client as an integrated totality rather than a sum of their symptoms and affect long-lasting change in their ease of motion and quality of life.

Our clients come to us from all over the GTA. Visiting from out of province and sometimes even internationally because they have been experiencing chronic pain and dysfunction in their everyday lives from injury, complex diagnoses, and previous emotional or physical trauma that has not improved with other therapies or surgical procedures, and they are ready to experience a massive leap in their healing.

Tell us about yourself

Having two children by C-Section and a host of other injuries over my lifetime, I have benefited so much from the effectiveness of Myofascial Release. My husband and I are both Physiotherapists and have always been interested in opening our own practice together. So when the timing finally felt right to jump in and make it a reality, it felt so gratifying to start receiving calls and talking to potential clients. Some people have never truly had the opportunity to have their stories listened to with patience and compassion. To be able to provide that and direct them to the services that I know will help kickstart their healing journey is so rewarding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been receiving top honours from the Mississauga News Readers Choice Awards for Best New Business in 2020, best Massage and Wellness Centre (2020 and 2021), and being ranked the best Physiotherapy Clinic/Services (2020 and 2021). This coupled with the feedback we receive from patients when they finally find relief for their chronic pain after years of searching, is how we know we are fulfilling our mission and vision.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part of being a business owner is balancing the needs of your team and your own needs and family time. Working with others is incredibly rewarding and comes with a sense of responsibility for their professional needs, especially their physical and mental welfare. We are lucky to have such a supportive team that communicates openly.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It's never too early to start planning for your next quarter or even year of business.
  2. Understand what it is you are providing and exactly who it is you visualize providing that for.
  3. Always strive to provide a better than expected client experience.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Keep working towards your vision. We opened our practice in January of 2020 with lots of ambition that had to be tabled for a little while, but we kept working at helping & educating our community the best we could through the pandemic, and it has all been worth it.
