Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jamie Barber, Founder of My Supper Hero Limited, located in London, LDN, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My Supper Hero is a members club for time-poor foodies. We deliver premium meal kits to our members nationwide, helping them eat restaurant-quality meals at home with less than 10 minutes of effort. All our kits are prepared in-house in small batches from our team of chefs who have worked in some of London's best restaurants.

Tell us about yourself

I used to be a media lawyer and acted for 1960's icons such as Roger Moore and Michael Caine, but then left to start a restaurant called Hush in Mayfair with Roger Moore and his son Geoffrey. That restaurant is still going strong, and I have 15 more in the group. Over lockdown, I became interested in recipe boxes and meal kits but found the majority of them very basic and time-consuming. Lots of chopping, peeling and washing up. I wanted to eat brilliantly at home without the fuss and couldn't find that solution. When lockdown eased, I realized that I still was craving that ability to eat amazing food at home without the effort and founded My Supper Hero as a service that I could use with my family!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Taking an idea that's formed in your head and bringing it to life as its own functioning, independent being. But most importantly, that people genuinely love!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Ultimately, everything is your responsibility!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be clear about your vision and values from the start, and read them back regularly to make sure you haven't drifted.
  2. Be totally driven by the customer and constantly listen to feedback.
  3. Be lean, but if raising money, raise more than you think you need.
