Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brittany Berezowski, owner and founder of My Full Time Athlete, located in Waterdown, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My Full Time Athlete’s focus is to motivate athletes to reach their highest potential through private training, clinics, and coach education. I offer individualized and customized training programs for athletes, online educational guides, and in-person coaching clinics. I also offer personal training and group fitness classes for both children and adults.

Tell us about yourself

I have been coaching gymnastics since 2005, and the thing that motivates me the most is seeing consistent progress in my athletes and clients. As a coach for many years and teaching athletes at all levels, I know how important the psychological and emotional aspect of training is. The physical aspect of training is important, but if the psychological and emotional aspects are not kept up, the athlete or person will not be able to consistently move forward. That’s when they become stagnant. I do my best to help my athletes and clients develop equally in all areas to promote consistent and effective progress.

Good athletes start from knowledgeable coaches, so after starting my business with private training and a motivational blog, I expanded further to start mentoring coaches on how to produce stronger athletes. My online educational guides and in-person clinics provide instruction on specific skills and how to provide quality coaching.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is my private training. It started very small with a few clients, but now it supports about 70% of my business income, and I am waitlisted for clients.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the toughest things about being a business owner is the responsibility of making sure quality is always met. We are only human, and where I am passionate, it is also very exhausting some days doing much of my business on my own. I hope to expand and hire employees in the near future.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

If you’re looking to start a business, ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Are you passionate enough about something to offer it as a service to other people? Service can be tough and sometimes discouraging. It’s important to stay focused on your goals and the services you’re offering.
  2. Are you okay with making many mistakes on your journey? I can say from experience that this will happen, and it’s the only way to learn.
  3. Are you willing to do everything it takes to make your business a success?

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We can all be successful if we truly want to be. The real question is, "Are we ready to do the work that it takes?" This is where many people get stuck, and I encourage you to always push past your limits. Stuck is a choice, and only you have the ability to choose a different path.
