Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brad Turner, Founder of My BTLR, located in Alpharetta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My BTLR is a virtual and fractional staffing company that provides virtual assistants, social media managers, bookkeepers, and other support personnel to busy businesses, executives, entrepreneurs, professionals, and families. We are based in the USA and serve North America.

Tell us about yourself

In 2016, I founded My BTLR with Craig Jarrow. During our conversations with people, we discovered a common challenge: disregarded small tasks resulting in increased stress despite accomplishing big goals. To alleviate stress and handle essential but routine tasks, we established My BTLR - a virtual assistant to take care of the little things. What drives me each day is twofold: My BTLR enables individuals to make the most of their time, allowing them to focus on what's important to them, like family, hobbies, and careers. Secondly, we provide flexible work opportunities to people, bringing fulfillment in adding value to both our clients and team members.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It's challenging to pinpoint one specific accomplishment, but I consider my biggest business successes to encompass four main areas:

  1. Establishing a profitable business from the outset.
  2. Developing a supportive and inclusive company culture.
  3. Gaining a dedicated customer base through exceptional service and a positive customer experience.
  4. Offering employment opportunities that help individuals achieve their aspirations.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Recruiting and retaining top-notch employees is a challenge. We are selective in our hiring process and only bring on the very best.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Ooh, only three? That's tough. I have six:

  1. You don't always have to follow the rules (see above).
  2. Develop a business plan, but don't overdo it with complexity. My business plan is on one page. Define your goals, target market, competition, and strategies for growth. Keep your plan updated to reflect changes in the market and your goals.
  3. Surround yourself with the best people (advisors, mentors, and partners) you can find who can provide guidance and resources as you grow your business.
  4. Prioritize customer satisfaction. Your customers are the foundation of your business. Continuously seek their feedback and make improvements to your products or services to drive growth and foster loyalty.
  5. Keep a close eye on your finances. Effective financial management is essential to the success of your business.
  6. Be open to change. The business world is constantly evolving, so it's important to be flexible and willing to adjust your strategy as needed. Stay informed about industry trends, embrace new ideas, and be prepared to pivot your business as needed to stay ahead.
