What's your business, and who are your customers?

We own a yoga & fitness studio in Philadelphia. Our customers are people of various backgrounds, ages, and interests. We love having a community of diverse and eclectic individuals!

Tell us about yourself

I first got into yoga after a severe car accident. My business partner, Steph, has been a longtime fitness student. We brought our passions together to open our studio during the peak of COVID-19, when many other studios had closed and Philly had limited options for the wellness community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm so proud that we opened our studio while working full-time (me) and having an infant (my partner). It's been a wild ride, but we're almost at the 1-year mark, and our attendance and revenue are picking up. It feels like we are a real business!!!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As mentioned above, we're balancing a LOT in our lives besides the business. It's incredibly tiring, and there are days when I don't feel like I can go on, but then we'll have an incredible class or event that makes it all worthwhile.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Use your resources (Google, friends, family, neighbors—you likely have experts around you that can help)!
  2. Accept that you will make mistakes - but done is better than perfect.
  3. Lead with "yes"—when employees or clients as for things, always try to make it work if you can.
