Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Keri O'Meara, Director of Muse Movement, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Muse Movement is a passionate Pilates and movement community that strives to make the practice accessible to all. We provide an experience that helps you unplug from your life and tune into your body. We celebrate that everyone's body and experience with movement is unique and invite you to get curious about yours. With deep knowledge and compassion, and in a light-hearted environment, we offer you the tools to grow and feel empowered in body, mind, and heart - on and off the mat.

Tell us about yourself

I have an autoimmune disease, and PIlates was a game changer for me. I no longer suffer from flare-ups and live in a confident, strong and empowered body which has changed my life. It was a no-brainer for me to want to share this and help other people achieve embodiment and empowerment in body and, ultimately, heart and soul.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The collaborative team I have brought together, as well as the students we have trained who built careers as Pilates Teachers. I love watching people grow, shine and do what they love.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Constant worry.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Business is about people. Build relationships, and don't let your ego get in the way. If someone is better at something, then you - delegate. You cannot do it all.
  2. Take the time to be organized and have systems from the begging- it will save you time, frustration, and tears in the end.
  3. Have patience and support systems, and please, for goodness sake, take weekends.
