Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Murtaza Khambati, CEO of Telkoware, located in Brampton, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an IT services company (https://telkoware.com) and help businesses promote their products/services via website design, digital marketing, software development, and mobile app development services.

We work with small and medium-sized businesses and help them build an online presence, promote products/services via Digital Marketing techniques (SEO, SEM, Social Media, Content Marketing), and streamline & automate business processes via custom software solutions.

Tell us about yourself

I am an IT professional with 20+ years of experience working in multinational IT companies. I started Telkoware.com in 2015 with the objective of helping small businesses overcome technology challenges so that they can grow rapidly.

The biggest motivation for me is customer trust. I work with a lot of small businesses that don’t have the technical knowledge to take care of their website, Digital Marketing, or any software that they are running. They know that if they face any problem, they can contact us at any time, and we will take care of it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to achieve more than 100% YoY growth for the past three years consecutively.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There are two hardest things:

  1. Wearing multiple hats at the same time. I am an accountant, salesperson, marketing person, HR, and admin while being CEO at the same time.
  2. Keeping a work-life balance. When there are project deadlines, it becomes very difficult to stop working and spend time with family.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take a leap of faith and, jump on an opportunity & start a business if you feel passionate about it. Be a risk taker.
  2. Don’t be afraid to take action. I have seen people spend a lot of time planning and not getting any work done. Be an action-oriented person.
  3. Set yearly goals and break them down into quarters, months, weeks, and days. It is much easier to complete smaller tasks daily than large tasks monthly. It will also give you a sense of accomplishment that will motivate you to keep going.
