Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and supplements but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kevin Murphy, Owner of Murcada Health, located in Minneapolis, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Murcada Health manufactures and distributes EFFBOMB, a multi-vitamin tablet you drop in coffee that dissolves and infuses a daily dose of vitamins, minerals, and great taste. The target customer is a health-conscious coffee drinker who prefers not to swallow a pill.

Tell us about yourself

I invented EFFBOMB to solve a problem that I was experiencing with my morning routine. As a father of four and entrepreneur, coffee is a necessity, as is staying healthy. I always started my day with at least one cup of coffee but had a hard time swallowing my daily multi-vitamin pill. When I did bring myself to choking down the large pill, it often upset my stomach. I had experience taking some supplements in the effervescent tablet form and wondered if there was a multi-vitamin form I could drop in coffee. No such product existed, so I found a contract manufacturer that specializes in tablets and began working with them on my formulas and flavors.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is showing my children that creativity combined with hard work can lead to a life you control.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a business owner is a lot like being a parent. It is well worth every moment, but it never turns off, and you always have to be either thinking about it or tending to it. When things are going well, it is the most liberating thing in the world, but conversely, when there are problems, it all falls on your shoulders.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Share your idea with as many people as you can. You'd be amazed at the support you might get.
  2. Test the idea before making any significant investment (if possible).
  3. Whatever your budget and time horizon are, double it.
