Tell us about yourself

Since I was 6, I have wanted to be an artist. As early as 3rd grade, I can remember pretending to run my own design agency out of my bedroom. I had an old rotary phone and a sketchbook, and I was open for "business." My real agency, MSLK, has been in business for over 23 years now. Over the years, we have worked on all sides of the beauty industry. Eventually, we became specialists in beauty branding. I love beauty, and I love building beautiful brands. In fact, it's my dream job.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with dozens and dozens of other entrepreneurs helping them to also build their dream businesses. We do it with style and substance that truly impacts their ability to succeed.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The past few years have been especially challenging for business owners, but to be honest, every year of my business has thrown me a new challenge, either internally or externally.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you don't enjoy problem-solving, I wouldn't suggest becoming a business owner, as there's always a problem to solve. It's not for the faint of heart.
  2. It's a marathon, not a sprint, so be prepared to push through difficult times if you want to succeed.
  3. Being prepared means having financial reserves and energy reserves to go the distance.
