What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an environmental educator. My customers are organizations, large and small, who are committed to creating socially just and sustainable communities.
Tell us about yourself
I am a serial entrepreneur who is dedicated to creating meaningful, intentional partnerships that create change. My passion for preserving this great planet of ours is what motivates me every single day. The alarm has been sounded, and we need all hands on deck!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
This is a hard one for me to answer. Creating a business model from scratch in the field where there was not any blueprint and creating a successful business model was so affirming. It was also quite thrilling to get to spend time with people, and an amazing interview with people like Dr. Jane Goodall changed my life.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Without question, the biggest challenge for this business owner was cash flow! Hard stop.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- I believe you have to be willing to “bet the farm,” as they say, knowing you could lose everything and being fearless about taking the leap!
- Surround yourself with good, strong people who will stand up to you and who share your values.
- Be very clear that you don’t know everything and that turning to experts for advice and support will serve you well.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Having started and successfully launched 5 businesses, I knew I was undercapitalized from the start. It made things quite challenging at times. Since this was truly a different kind of “business,” monetizing it came with a different set of challenges that I did not experience with my other companies.
