What's your business, and who are your customers?
I run Mr. Technique, a web design company in Downtown St. Petersburg. Our customers are small businesses throughout the United States. We also help some of our clients attract businesses on Google with Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Tell us about yourself
I created mrtechnique.com in 2002 as a personal website while working as a sales rep for a web design firm in Atlanta, GA. I really enjoyed creating something that anyone in the world with an internet connection could see, so I learned by reading books about web design. By 2005, I was creating websites full-time, and in 2007, Mr. Technique, Inc. was born.
Learning new things to stay relevant in my industry motivates me to do what I do. Since 2015, Mr. Technique has been at the top of Google for local web design keywords.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment(s) are reaching the top of Google for web design in Atlanta, GA, in 2015, and more recently, reaching the top of Google for web design in St. Petersburg, FL.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Once your business is established, it becomes harder to find time to do your own marketing because you have to take care of your customers or clients first. They are the reason why you are in business. You can't ignore your own company's marketing because that greatly affects future business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Spend time marketing your own business.
- Focus more on taking care of current customers rather than prospective customers.
- Hire a business attorney and an accountant.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Unlike other companies in my industry, I meet most clients in person. There is no better form of communication than talking face-to-face.
