Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ryan Clark, Chief Solutions Architect of Mr. SharePoint, LLC., located in Chicago, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a consultancy that helps organizations better leverage their investments in the modern workplace and digital process automation technology. My clients range from small mom-and-pop shops to Fortune 500 organizations.

Tell us about yourself

I first started consulting after I got laid off from a job I had some years ago. I haven't looked back since. I love being able to set my own work schedule while having the flexibility to travel whenever I want. People believe what they see, and that is why having excellent role models is so necessary. I am motivated to be a catalyst for change for anyone I encounter who may think that entrepreneurship is not a viable path.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is still having a thriving business today. More than 20% of small businesses fail within the first year, and nearly half of them fail within the first five years (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2021). I am proud to not be part of those statistics.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Wearing multiple hats all of the time and effectively managing time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. The best time to start a business was yesterday, which means the next best time is now.
  2. Do not let fear hold you back; you will eventually regret it.
  3. Once you make that first sale, you can make a million more if you truly want to. The first sale is usually the toughest.
