What's your business, and who are your customers?
B Corp and Benefit Corporation, MPOWERD Inc., manufactures and distributes solar portable lights and chargers to all people, regardless of their situation. We sell to retailers from REI to the MOMA, and these healthy margin sales subsidize affordable pricing for those requiring our technologies in humanitarian and natural disaster situations. This enables our consumers to be a part of our mission to deliver light to those that require it.
Tell us about yourself
I am a native New Yorker with an urge to change the world through clean technologies. I believe that each of us must contribute to our planet's health and future generations' health.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We have impacted 4.3M lives and averted 3m tons of CO2 in a decade of deployments through 700 renowned NGOs and non-profits globally.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The greatest challenge we face is the responsibility to our end-user in terms of need and quality. Our solar tech is delivered into the harshest of conditions around the world and must work and last. That is where the lion's share of our energy is placed to ensure everything along the entire supply chain is flawless.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Ensure the problem you intend to solve is clear and your solution is effective.
- Surround yourself with those who buy into your vision and strategy and will stick by you during the most difficult of times. This applies to your team as well as any investors you garner.
- Outwork anyone and everyone in your space.
