Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Addie deHilster, Founder of Moved To Meditate, located in Vancouver, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Moved To Meditate offers online mindful movement and meditation instruction in a variety of formats - live group classes, a pre-recorded Class Library, and one-to-one mentoring sessions. My passion is teaching movement practices that "unlock" mindfulness skills and helping students gain traction in their meditation practice so they can be more present in their lives. Moved To Meditate meets you where you are with accessible, feel-good movement practices that reduce stress, improve sleep, and alleviate aches and pains – all of which make it easier to enjoy moments of reflection and peace.

Tell us about yourself

I am a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher and Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), and I started my practice 24 years ago as an angsty college student seeking stress relief and more clarity about my path. I completely fell in love with yoga and meditation, and over the years, I've taken dozens of training and have spent about four months (cumulative) in silent retreats. My life is constantly supported and enhanced by what I've learned from my mindfulness and movement practices, and I love to share these tools with others. I'm always motivated to make practices feel relatable and do-able for people who say things like "I can't sit still to meditate" or "I'm not flexible enough to do yoga."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

When I had my brick-and-mortar yoga studio, I led several rounds of yoga teacher certification training. Now, I've evolved to leading Mindful Movement Teacher Training and Yin Yoga Teacher Training online. Watching dedicated practitioners study and grow into excellent teachers is extremely rewarding. And, by teaching others to teach, I feel as if I can multiply my impact - together, we can reach so many more students who can benefit from mindfulness practices.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I have a creative mind and so much enthusiasm for what I do, so ideas come easily. The challenge is to figure out what to prioritize and what projects to pursue next! When you run a "solopreneur" business, you need to be really aware of using your time and manpower wisely.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Build your business around something that's meaningful to you because it will continue to inspire you over the long haul. Be patient because creating a sustainable business takes time. And focus on relationships. Nurture your connections with your clients, as well as your colleagues. Trust and understanding are fundamental to the growth and evolution of your service.
