Tell us about yourself.

In 2018, I found myself at the Go Pro Mountain Games in Vail, Colorado, working as a health and wellness ambassador for a large corporate brand. There, my two passions collided, and when I had my vision and concept for Mountain Wellness. Growing up in southern California, I found my love for action sports at a young age. Surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding were huge parts of my lifestyle. Tragically in 2005, I was a passenger in a near-fatal car accident that left me totally blind and a below-the-knee amputee. With a strong will and determination not to be a victim, I was back up on a snowboard just over a year after the accident. That propelled me into a professional career as an adaptive athlete competing in a number of action sports. It was through that experience I found my passion for self-optimization and personal growth.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being an entrepreneur can sometimes be a lonely pursuit, especially in the startup phases. I am most grateful for my partners and the incredible team that I have attracted that pushes me to be a better leader and visionary every day.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would say the hardest item of running a business is developing a corporate structure along with understanding the importance of capital funding and managing cash flow. This is absolutely essential for scaling and having sustainable growth.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top three tips for someone that wants to run and start a business today would be first to seek a mentor. Don’t underestimate someone with experience, especially if they’re willing to share their wisdom. This can save an enormous amount of time and energy and will also accelerate growth. My second piece of advice will be if you choose to have a partner, make sure that their talents are completely different from yours. And third, always trust your gut and intuition. As the founder, you’re the visionary and know your brand better than anyone.
