Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in freelancing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amardeep Pawar, Founder of motiongraphicsbyamar, located in Mumbai, Maharastra, India.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I provide a range of services to my clients, so we can consider them in the design field. Services include website design, graphic design, video post-production, and motion graphics. Talking about my customers, they are all from foreign countries, from lawyers to teachers. Some are just regular people posting on YouTube; others are agency owners outsourcing editing services for their clients.

Tell us about yourself

So, I never really thought about doing freelance work. Once I was into music production and always wanted to become good at it and take it as a carrier. In order to achieve this, I needed professional mixing headphones, which were expensive. This made me enter into freelance work to earn money and buy the headphone to advance into professional music production. Then I really started enjoying the freelance business and exploring various skills which I can offer to my clients. So I began with offering music production services, entered into website design and graphics design, and finally ended up in video post-production and motion graphics. Providing high-quality design services to my clients, which makes them happy, is what motivates me to work on my freelance business. Apart from this, my earnings in foreign currency make me happy and excited.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

If I were to be working at a normal job in India, then the amount of work I would have to do to earn the same money I am making through my freelance business would be long working hours daily for a month. But now, I just need to work on a few projects, and I can earn more than I could have made if I had worked at a company in India. So I think earning more in foreign currency would be my biggest accomplishment by doing a small amount of work. I earned 13,516.74 USD on Fiverr and more than this amount from other direct clients.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It would be the downtime; as a freelancer, you are not working throughout the year. Although it is a good thing if you don't have the money saved up for the downtime, it can be challenging. Apart from this, I think meeting up to the client's expectations is another hardest thing as this is what keeps the client coming back to you, so you need to be very careful about it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I would say treat your clients well and deliver a lil bit more than what you promise on a project. Also, try to be someone who tries to go lil bit too far to get the projects in time and raise the quality bar. Always be ready to agree on a few extra revisions and make the clients feel as if their projects is your own personal project. Offer a few free add-ons.
