Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Morgan Fancy, Owner of Fancy Therapy Services, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a group therapy practice serving clients across Ontario and the country who want to improve their mental health. We offer affordable individual, couples, and group therapy to help people reach their mental health goals. We’re also working on adding more services to reach even more clients and improve accessibility.

Tell us about yourself

When I started my bachelor's degree, I just loved psychology and the brain, and I wanted to help people. I had no idea it would lead me here. Eventually, I started studying counseling and clinical work and knew I needed to dedicate my life to providing accessible therapy for people in my community. Eventually, that led to the greater community of Ontario with access to virtual services.

My biggest motivation to grow my business was when my husband and I decided to start our family, and I got pregnant with our son. Knowing I wanted to spend time with him as much as possible pushed me to work those 60+ hour weeks to get to a point where I could take time off and still have a thriving business. Growing into a group practice has allowed me to see fewer clients and run more of the administration.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think the biggest accomplishment was quitting my full-time job after only a month in business and committing to this completely. Beyond that, I’ve also expanded drastically in only one year in business with six licensed therapists and seven students, as well as two administrators.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the most difficult things is balancing work with family life. As a new mom, I’ve had to figure out how to be my best self for my son while also serving the clients of my clinic.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Bet yourself, do your research, and know when to hire a professional!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Mental health is so important, and we are just trying to do our small part by providing services with no waitlist and affordable online sessions with highly trained, empathic therapists.
