Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business and leadership development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Peter Ricci, Co-Founder of Moov Group, located in Tustin, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We provide growth management consulting for mid-market businesses, in addition to providing proprietary leadership development programming helping those organizations grow their employees into leaders.

Tell us about yourself

I started as an officer in the US Army and found a love for leading people and solving problems. I got a position at Google and worked in Sales and Operations for five years. I moved to a start-up shortly after as the head of operations and then into the CEO role. I really got fulfillment out of making decisions in a smaller growing environment than in a large corporation.

I am motivated every day by the building and learning process. The opportunity to grow something from nothing and see if it flourish is really what keeps me motivated and excited about the business and what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My greatest accomplishment as a business owner is taking my consultancy from nothing to an incredibly fast-growing consultancy and leadership development program. We have helped tens of businesses in the past four years, and now we are in the business of acquiring businesses and growing them with our leadership and development programming and growth consultancy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

COVID hitting was one of the hardest things that I had to overcome. You always hear about "black swan" events, but this really tested my willpower and resiliency. We were able to fight through a downturn and period of unknown by continuing to deliver creative growth strategies and leadership development programming online during the pandemic.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Work to product market fit. Ensure that you have your product or service flying off the shelves or your phone ringing off the hook.
  2. Find the right partner. You can't do it all yourself, so you need someone that you can trust and who will provide the right balance to your strengths and weaknesses.
  3. Don't quit. The only reason a business fails is that you quit on it. Keep going, keep pushing, and ensure you really have a passion for the business.
