Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in career and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Monica Swint, Founder of Monica Swint Consulting, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Through Monica Swint Consulting, LLC brand, I help nurses launch their Med Spa/Drip businesses. Also, sharing practical solutions that allow clients to up-level their thinking and learn efficient and scalable skills, increasing awareness and helping them build towards a successful nursing career in the hospital setting/medspa industry. My team and I also consult physicians and assist with integrating an Infusion Center into their existing practice. I'm known in the nursing community as Mo, the "Vein Whisperer." I teach nurses to master IV Insertion skills.

Tell us about yourself

Actually, Monica Swint Consulting, LLC is a pivot from a previous health and wellness business where we provided IV vitamin therapy within our communities. That business was an introduction to a bigger need within the Medspa/Health community. I had worked in the beauty industry since the age of 14, where I was a shampoo girl for a well-known hairstylist in the New Orleans area. I was introduced to the importance of health/beauty wellness in the spa setting. The impact that we are making within the wellness/beauty industry is what keeps us driven.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments is training 120 nurses in the skill of IV insertion - with them completing the class confident and competent in the skill. Upon completion of the course, most have secured very sought-after jobs that they were not able to land in the past.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a woman, and of color, sometimes I'm not taken seriously, which means I have to work harder. I always have to prove and go the extra mile to demonstrate I am qualified.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Lead with integrity. Never risk a relationship for an opportunity.
  2. Be your authentic self. Allow your potential clients to fall in you and your brand.
  3. Build your community and network before or early on.
