Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Monica Paz, Founder of Nourished Functional Nutrition, located in Seattle, WA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Functional Medicine Certified Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner, and my customers are people who are tired of not finding answers with conventional treatments. They're looking for support using food and lifestyle alternatives to what is not working for them.
Tell us about yourself
I studied dietetics in school and obtained a Master's degree in Human Nutrition. When I had a health crisis and couldn't find answers in the current health model, I turned to natural medicine. This is when I discovered functional medicine and decided to go back to school to find alternative ways of healing. The functional medicine model asks, "why is a condition appearing in the body?" vs. the conventional model, which asks, "what is this condition?". I found my passion in helping people dig and find the root causes of their dysfunction. I teach them how to use food as medicine and all kinds of tools that help the body and mind respond naturally, the way it was meant to do. I believe that our bodies can heal from the inside with an innate power given to us by our creator. I use food and many tools to help people heal naturally.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating a course that is changing people's lives. Getting the word out there that we have the power to take control of our own health and that all this is available to all of us. Creating a business that helps people live better life is my passion. I created the course "From Fatigued to Fabulous" to help women understand the power of food to balance and heal and the connection between every system in our bodies. I launched the course this year and have found that teaching in groups is so much more powerful than one on one. People need connection, and this is what I offer.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Staying focused on the goal of bringing the money in so the business will continue to grow.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Focus on the end goal and keep it in the front of your mind that the end goal has to be bigger than yourself in order for you to keep going when things get tough.
- Find a good mentor to help you stay focused, someone that is more successful and experienced, and seek their opinion and help often.
- Consistency is key. If you're not consistent and don't believe in that main goal, it's easy to get distracted and lazy.
