What's your business, and who are your customers?
Monellisa is a stationary design company filled with stickers, greeting cards, prints, and more. We cater to anyone that is looking to add a little color and fun into their lives and the lives of the ones they love.
Tell us about yourself
Monellisa, was created by me, Isabel Monell, a native of Virginia Beach. I have a deep love for art and color and a deep desire to share this love with others. What motivates me is knowing that my work brings smiles to those that I purchase or even receive as special gifts.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think one of my biggest accomplishments has been opening my own boutique within the Painted Tree storefront. In 2021 I was given the opportunity to open my own storefront; not too big, but it's mine and a reflection of me! All of my pieces are in one place; the space is designed by me, and it's a space where new and returning customers can go.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
For me, one of the biggest challenges is staying motivated, being consistent, and believing in myself. Sometimes I have to sit down with myself and give myself a nice pep talk to stay in the game. That's more than one, but I feel like they are cousins; if not cousins, they are definitely related.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Jump in, jump all the way in, and with this comes believing in the thing you are jumping into.
- Surround yourself with people who will champion your start, middle, and fulfillment. Who you have around you matters, and how they are encouraging and supporting you matters.
- Have the "why" of why you wanted to do it in the first place close. There will be moments when you want to throw in the towel. Remember the "why," and it makes it easier to keep your stride.
