What's your business, and who are your customers?

My name is Sonya Carr, and I am the owner of Mommy & Me Bakery. We have a large customer base consisting of adults purchasing desserts for events, parties, and/or family gatherings. We strive to make every occasion a little sweeter!

Tell us about yourself

Mommy & Me Bakery was created in 2019 as a home-based bakery. In 2022 we opened its first storefront. I’ve always loved to bake, and it’s been an amazing experience turning my passion into a business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment most recently is opening our first storefront in Hampton, SC.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things for me that come along with being a business owner is wearing multiple hats. I love to bake, but it’s so much more when owning a business, such as marketing, finances, and managing inventory. While it’s a lot, I do amaze myself sometimes at how it all comes together.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you can dream it, you can achieve it!
  2. Never be afraid to ask for help.
  3. Build a business network and find a mentor.
