Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sade Jenkins, Founder, and Host of Mom Chat Show, located in Okinawa, Japan.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the owner and founder of Mom Chat Show. The Mom Chat Show was created to help moms come together and show that we're all growing through this together. The Mom Chat Show provides healing, sisterhood, and the strength of owning your story.

Tell us about yourself

I started this journey because I felt alone and lost after becoming a mom. This led to me losing myself and having a mental breakdown. In that moment, something told me to try it all and relearn who I am. My journey lasted a whole year. I learned that I was my own blockage the whole time. I never took the time to get to know the new me after becoming a mom. I decided that I wanted to create a place for moms to be vulnerable, honest, and open about their stories as moms. I firmly believe our stories can create healing and mind-blowing shifts in another mom's life. My mission is to help moms embrace their stories and heal through sharing their journeys.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been really reaching moms who needed to hear and feel that they weren't alone during those tough moments. Having another mom reach out to me about one of the interviews and how it really created a difference for them is the best accomplishment I could ask for. Hearing about their breakthroughs shows me that I'm fulfilling my purpose and mission to help moms feel better about themselves.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The best lesson that I learned at the beginning of my journey as an entrepreneur was patience and how to focus. In the beginning stages, it is so tempting to do everything at once because you are so excited about the process. I quickly learned to slow down, take everything one step at a time, and go at my own pace. Focusing on your goals and the mission of why you started your business is so important. This will keep you motivated in the high and low moments of growing your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Strangers can be your greatest gift. Take advantage of networking, collaborations, and small business events. You will be so surprised at the amount of support, accountability, and growth you will experience.
  2. Don't be afraid to try. If you never try, you will never know how well things could work out.
  3. Believe in yourself. As corny as this may sound, it is so important. Being in business is strongly influenced by your mindset. That means that your thoughts and perspective will play a huge role in how far you go. I suggest that you make personal development a huge part of your journey as a new entrepreneur to build a good foundation for yourself to handle the highs and lows of business.
