Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food & beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jihad and Mustafa, owner of Mokha Bunn, the first Canadian coffee company & roastery that serves Yemeni specialty coffee.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Mokha Bunn is the first Canadian coffee company & roastery that helps coffee enthusiasts, roasters, and corporate entities to get easy access to extraordinary, sustainable, and delicious Yemeni specialty coffee micro-lots by maintaining a fair and a direct trade practice throughout the process from farm to doorstep.

Tell us about yourself

As coffee lovers who couldn’t find the Yemeni beans in Canada and North America we decided to share the unique experience with everyone by only importing unique, exceptional, fully traceable, naturally and organically processed micro-lot Yemeni coffees, which are then roasted in Canada to ensure the best quality. The biggest motivator for us is the great feedback that we always receive about how sweet, fruity, and complex are all of our coffees are.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping our heroes at the farm to be more productive and have a better life is the biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Well, I can say that being a small business owner who should do and supervise everything from A to Z would make you wish if you have 48 hours a day. Balancing your social and family life with your business is the hardest thing for me.

What are your top tips for anyone looking to start, run or grow a business today

First, work smarter not harder, this will save you a lot of time. Second, be your own, it's good to be different so you don't need to copy others just to fit in the industry. Third, be close to your customer, listen to them and always ask them for recommendations to be the better version of your business.

Anything else you'd like to share?

Yemen is the birthplace of coffee which is an interesting fact that a lot of people don’t know.  The delicious Mocha drink that is very famous for its chocolatey flavour was named after the Yemeni Mokha seaport where the coffee was exported to the whole world.
