What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a wellness company that facilitates our clients in driving change within their company through combatting workplace burnout and protecting employees' mental health. We do this by providing a variety of classes with topics such as mindfulness, meditation, and yoga. Our customers are stressed-out professionals from all industries, from Netflix to Amazon, non-profits, and global companies.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Kayla Kozan, and I started Peak Wellness after experiencing the negative effects workplace burnout had on me. I was dealing with mental health challenges and noticed a gap in the way many companies were working to maintain their employees' wellness. I was motivated to help employers find a way to combat burnout and give employees a break in the day for relaxation and restoration.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments as a business owner was being able to pivot our company during the pandemic. Before, all our services were offered onsite. During the challenging time of the pandemic, we changed our services to virtual. We were able to work with even more companies than before!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that I've found as a business owner is dealing with the day-to-day ups and downs; every day challenges me with new things. Another thing is trying to constantly take a long-term approach with my business and find the most effective ways to work towards our long-term vision.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start before you're ready because you'll never be fully prepared or ready to start; just get started with what you have today and keep improving it.
  2. Separate yourself from your business personally so that when a deal doesn't go through, you don't take it as a personal failure.
  3. Invest in those around you on your team- in their happiness and helping them reach goals they have for themselves.
