Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Micah Morgan, Owner and CEO of MMFitness, located in Tampa, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

MMFitness is a holistic fitness gym. In addition to providing full-body workout programs designed to get you lean, toned, and fit, we offer strategies to support mental health and an improved sense of well-being. We accomplish this goal by partnering with other health professionals in our community to educate our members on various subjects, such as proper nutrition, stress management, and sleep habits.

MMFitness customers are those who believe that “fit” is a multidimensional approach. It is more than just how you look in the mirror. Rigorous physical training, dietary adaptations, and consistent lifestyle changes are restorative and rejuvenating. A “sexy” body is simply a bi-product.

Tell us about yourself

Due to the injuries I sustained while playing football for USF, life as an NFL player was not going to be my reality. I struggled with releasing my expectation that only football would bring me happiness and success. I fell into depression, gained weight, and started to develop a poor attitude.

One day I realized that my negative energy was not only stunting my personal growth, but it was also deuterating the health of my close relationships. I asked myself what life changes I needed to practice to have a life of fulfillment and contentment. Through fitness, I found my answer. I then wanted to share it with my family, friends, and other individuals in the community that may be struggling as well and could benefit from my help. And That’s how I founded MMFitness.

Seeing the transformation of others’ lives through the commitment to better health and fitness gives me joy. For some people, this is a matter of life and death. Knowing that I play a small part is what keeps me doing what I do every day. It’s not about me anymore. It’s become bigger than that. It’s about the lives of others.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is being consistent with my services. Results keep me in business, and that's what I have provided year-round for over 10 years now.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things for me was to step away from the business. When I started, I was the trainer, the HR department, the janitor, the marketing team, and so many other time-consuming tasks. Now I am learning how to step away and build those systems so that my team can help with the day-to-day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just start. Anywhere. If you wait for it to feel right, you will be waiting forever.
  2. Let go of perfection.
  3. Be confident. At times businesses go through tough times. Trust that you will get through them as they come.
