What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a home baker and chocolatier located in Cable, Ohio (Urbana, Ohio). I specialize in macarons, but I also make cake pops, chocolates, and my newest addition, donuts! My customers are local and wonderful people that have supported me from day 1! I have really expanded the last two years with the customer base growing in a lot of surrounding cities!
Tell us about yourself
I first started baking 4 years ago for a good friend's baby shower I was hosting. I wanted macarons, and I couldn't find any close to me; I baked here and there, so I thought to myself, "Why not just try to make them" My first batch was "good" it wasn't perfect, but it got the job done, and I have been making them ever since! Motivation is extremely easy when you are doing something you love! I love how I get to be creative and make people smile with all my sweets!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment would be getting my macarons into retail store locations! 3 to be exact. My first and longest retailer is Bottoms Up Coffee in Columbus, Ohio, to go with a delicious cup of coffee, Bell's Flowers, where you can pair them with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, The Depot Coffeehouse with a delicious latte, all located in Urbana, Ohio.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Time making time for yourself and your family as a working mom of 2. I don't want to miss out on anything. Sometimes I do have to pull late nights, but it's 100% worth it to see your son smile that you made it to his game or school party.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Just do it! Social media really helps you grow your business, but nothing beats word of mouth and get yourself out there into the community! Don't be afraid; take the leap and watch your business grow!
