Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Miriam Gilbert, founder of Impactfulness Lab, located in London, England, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a corporate consultant with over 20 years of experience as a decision-maker and CFO, I am committed to helping small businesses, coaches, consultants, and experts win work with dreamboat corporate clients with ease.
My insider knowledge and expertise guide them through the intricate process of corporate contracts, giving them the confidence to secure big deals.
Because I have a deep understanding of corporate buying psychology and know what drives decision-making, my clients have the competitive edge they need to excel. What's more, I am still a corporate consultant myself, working with some of the world's biggest names in Professional Services & Infrastructure, so I know what is happening in corporate sales right now!

Tell us about yourself

I have always been fascinated by human behavior and motivation, which led me to a career with PricewaterhouseCoopers as a business advisor. It was an excellent business education, which I supplemented with some stints client side. But when my baby first came along just over a decade ago. It was time to start my own business.

My desire to make a difference in the world has driven me to consult on high-performance for corporate teams and the future of work, my hashtag being #rehumanizework. However, it wasn't until I realized that many small businesses, coaches, and experts lack the skills to secure corporate contracts that I decided to create Impactfulness Lab in 2020. My team and I are passionate about helping others win big corporate contracts so we can all make a big impact (and maybe change the world a bit for the better).

My biggest motivation is to be a good role model for my now not-so-small child and to see the awesome results my clients are getting from working with me!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It might sound weird, but my biggest accomplishment is getting out of my own way. I have a mission and vision to improve how corporate work is done, how people inside corporates are treated, and how corporates behave toward society. And with a mission like this, I don't have the luxury of worrying about how I will look in front of others when speaking at a conference or worrying if people will like me on social media. Because I know I cannot achieve the impact I want without the help of 100's of other experts, I am creating a movement of like-minded people, and that means I cannot allow myself to stand in my own way!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things when you are a small business owner is to make all the decisions and set all the priorities. Even with a small team, it can be challenging to stay motivated and accountable without more people to bounce ideas off or provide feedback.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get clear on your purpose and vision: Define what you want to achieve with your business and why it matters to you. This will help you stay focused on what's important and make decisions that align with your goals.
  2. Build a strong network: Connect with mentors, industry experts, and other business owners to share knowledge and ideas and learn best practices. Having a strong support system can help you stay motivated and inspired and overcome challenges along the way. On that note, don't wait too long to outsource work!
  3. Embrace the power of technology. There is so much out there that can really help you automate work so that you can use your time better. It always irks me that particularly female experts often don't make the best use of technology and almost wear the "I am not technical" badge with pride.
