Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing and branding but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mindi Rosser, Founder of Mindi Rosser Marketing LLC., located in Haleiwa, HI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help B2B (business-to-business) business owners, thought leaders, and subject matter experts to start having great conversations on LinkedIn with their audience, prospects, and peers based on trust, authenticity, and consistency. I specialize in LinkedIn profile writing, LinkedIn Social Selling, LinkedIn Marketing Strategy, and LinkedIn Thought Leadership.

Tell us about yourself

What motivates me every day to help people is that I truly want to make LinkedIn a better place for all of us, where we can build better relationships that lead to more opportunities for everyone. I know that when I help an individual create a simplified strategy for their LinkedIn profile, their success on LinkedIn is inevitable. I like to go against the grain when it comes to typical tactics because 90% of people don't need to do as much as "LinkedIn gurus" tell them to!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to grow my business and profitability levels to a point where I could retire my husband from his full-time job as a carpenter and also relocate our family from the mainland US to live on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii. Having worked with thousands of people to optimize their LinkedIn profiles and build out their personal/company strategy is what I love to do!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing all the moving parts that you don't even think about when you're an employee. There's also a consistent focus on business development and sales where you are always looking for your next client, and that can feel like a lot of pressure when you don't exactly know where your next sale is coming from. You learn to trust the process and use historical data to predict future revenue.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a solid emergency fund because it can take 2-3 years to get to the revenue level you need.
  2. Create a backup plan and exit strategy if things do not work out as you hoped - it's okay to go back to being an employee at any point!
  3. Once your business is profitable, set aside the right percentages towards taxes and a business emergency fund to get through those roller coaster months.
