Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alma Dunnavant Founder of Mindful Yoga with Alma, located in Gilbert, SC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the owner of Mindful Yoga. My customers are typically anyone that is looking for a way to stretch, strengthen, destress and maybe even learn how to find stillness for meditation.

Tell us about yourself

This is a loaded question, but let me keep it short and sweet. I am and always have been motivated to help others in some way. Yoga has offered me this beautiful opportunity to use my skills and what I love to help people find some respite, peace, and tranquility, along with some yummy stretches and strengthening practices to help balance the mind and body.

My journey began when I was at a crossroads in my personal life and was searching for my purpose. I began a yoga practice in my late 20s and just fell in love with the practice. It changed my life, and this is why I am passionate about it. I know the potential that this practice has for everyone. It's awesome!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say that my biggest accomplishments come in many forms, but my favorite is hearing testimonies from students on how their practice has helped them physically, emotionally, spiritually, or a combo of these.

It's an amazing feeling because I know how this practice has changed my life, and it fills my heart when I hear how yoga has helped others. I love what I do.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having to say no to certain teaching opportunities because people aren't willing to invest. This drives me crazy. I finally came to Jesus one day when I decided that what I do has so much value that I can no longer devalue myself, my craft, and all my studies. Just like your massage therapist, your gym coach, your facials, or your pilates have their fee and value, so do we.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Go For It! If you can, start small.
  2. Don't rush into anything.
  3. If you don't have peace with a decision that you have to make.....wait. Wait until you have clarity, and don't devalue yourself or what you have to offer.
