What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help moms maximize their ME-Time! I'm a certified life coach specializing in self-care for hardworking moms who need a little self-TLC.

Tell us about yourself

I absolutely love what I do! That moment in my virtual coaching calls when my client lights up and starts smiling at her own reflection keeps me motivated to do more. It's extremely rewarding. When I was a young mom struggling to find my identity and stay on top of my own wellness, I felt very alone. I wished I had an unbiased friend I could talk to, right there in the middle of my life, without having to leave my house and book a sitter or wait for my partner to get home. We give so much of ourselves during the various stages of motherhood, new moms, school years, teenagers (!!), empty nest-hood, or even the grandparent years that the struggle for self-identity and wellness can seem never-ending. I truly aspire to be the girlfriend in every mom's corner, cheering her on to be the best version of herself at any age or stage.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Managing to do it all within my own version of success. I have run three of my own small businesses from home while my kids were at school for over the last 12 years. In fact, I take it as a great accomplishment that my children barely realized that I worked!!! The freedom of being my own boss allowed me to fit it all in during school hours. I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off during those 5.75 hours, but I found the right balance for my life. I could still do the school drop-off and pick-up, volunteer on class trips, carpool to evening sports, put a healthy meal on the table, and fit in my personal fitness and self-care. I am very proud of myself for finding this balance, which has taught my children that there's more to life than monetary success alone.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Turning it off! It's virtually impossible to turn off texting, social media, or emails when the phone makes you accessible to clients 24/7. You have to be very diligent about setting clear boundaries, not only with your clients but with your family and yourself. Otherwise, burnout sets in pretty quickly.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I'd say the most important thing is to take the extra time to figure out how to set up your business yourself in the early stages. The advances in DIY web design, app tutorials, and of course, how-to videos on YouTube make it much easier for business owners to develop everything themselves. This is crucial when you're just starting and might not have the funds to pay an expert. That way, you can shift your niche or phrasing more easily at the beginning when you're still trying to figure things out. Eventually, when you have your fan base, clients, and regular income, you can hire an expert and upgrade. Secondly, don't rush! I have zero patience, and I'm a Type-A personality, so I always want everything immediately. But there's something to be said for enjoying the journey of starting your own business. You should be proud of the courage it takes to make the leap to being self-employed. And lastly, I'd say be yourself. Comparing yourself or trying to copy a competitor never works. You cannot be everything to everyone, but you can be perfect for the right client or customer.
