Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Garrett Jefferies, Founder of Mind Anchor Psychiatry, located in Bountiful, UT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a nurse practitioner specializing in psychiatry. I see people outpatient for mental health issues and prescribe medications and holistic treatments to treat those issues.

Tell us about yourself

I originally started working in healthcare as a nurse in the ICU. COVID hit shortly after I started. I saw a massive toll on everyone - including my coworkers. This toll was more emotional, and I saw a lot of burnout. I even lost a coworker to suicide. This opened my eyes to the need for mental health treatment, even for those serving others on the front lines. I decided then that I would go into mental health.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to reach patients directly on my own and treat their mental health needs.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Surviving the startup phase, getting enough clients to survive and eventually thrive!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Really know why you want to do this; ask yourself what would stop you from doing it. If you'd rather go forward with your business, even if it means you're going to suffer - you're ready.
  2. Chunk the process into small pieces. Starting a business is a process, not something that happens all at once. Divide things up into smaller pieces and start with the highest priorities.
  3. Starting a business can be kind of lonely. Surround yourself with individuals who believe in you and who you can trust.
