What's your business, and who are your customers?
I run a strategic communications and crisis communications firm. We work across earned, owned, and paid media — and serve businesses, high-profile individuals, government organizations, non-profits, and others.
Tell us about yourself
I love being in the business of communications. Our field is changing remarkably fast, and yet it is still built on core principles that go back thousands of years. Humans are hard-wired to need stories and storytellers, and it is fun, exciting, and rewarding to help others share their stories with the world. I also love being deeply hands-on in our business and having the chance to work with the extraordinarily talented and professional team we have built.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We have grown significantly over the last decade — and have helped so many clients score big communications wins, navigate crises, and advance the goals of their organization. However, the thing that I am most proud of is the team that we have cultivated at Miller Ink.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
No two days are the same. You have to be prepared for constant changes and challenges and figure out a way to always enjoy the ride.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't wait. Gain entrepreneurial experience as young as you possibly can.
- Be nimble and flexible. Most things won't go according to plan, but you have to be able to figure out solutions when they do not.
- Don't believe in conventional wisdom. Trust your judgment when you feel like things aren't as they seem to be. You are probably right.
