What's your business, and who are your customers?

Milena Elite is a business virtual assistant. I am in Milwaukee, WI; however, I can serve clients around the world. My clients are small business owners that are growing and realizing that they need to delegate, or they will stagnate. Milena Elite specializes in giving her clients life back by taking from their plate tasks such as project management, email management, customer relationship management, content planning, and some marketing like newsletters or managing social media like LinkedIn. Milena Elite's attention to detail means nothing will be missed, and once the project is in her hands and out of her clients, they can breathe easy knowing it's taken care of.

Tell us about yourself

I am originally from Poland. A few years ago, I met my husband, who is originally from Milwaukee. Down the road, after we got married, we decided to build our life in the USA, so I permanently moved here. It was easier for us to move here as I have traveled to the USA before, and I knew the language and culture very well. That decision also brought to my professional life a breath of fresh air. I always had the feeling inside of me that there is something more than being an employee. I knew I wanted to create my own business.

In Poland, we have a different approach to business and a different mindset. Once I moved to the USA, I started surrounding myself with small business owners. I started learning from them how to build a business. It also confirmed what I felt in myself, that being a business owner is my space to be. I found a need for my skill set to support those small business owners in their growth.

I love hearing when my clients see the results of their investments in my services. When I get a message from a client that they get more attendees for their events, or their LinkedIn profile has significantly more impressions than before working with me, when they tell me how happy they are that their business got organized, all of that brings me joy. Therefore this is why I do what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a fresh business owner, I think there are many things ahead of me. I can, however, say that becoming a business owner in the USA, not my home country is a pretty good achievement for me. If someone had told me I would be a business owner a few years ago, I would probably not believe it, but here I am in 2022, a business owner.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think we all, as business owners, need to learn how to be business owners. We need to be constant learners to make sure we are going in the right direction. We need to reevaluate our path constantly and make sure we are reaching our goals. I am fortunate that if I come across things that I am not good at or have a problem with, I have people in my network that I can reach out to and ask for help and advice.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be fearless in the pursuit of what set your soul on fire – I have this sign on the wall in front of me when I sit at my desk. It is a reminder for me and a great tip for anyone who feels they want to start, run, and grow a business.
  2. Never give up – this is another sign on my desk. We, as business owners, always will have better and worse days… and it's normal. We just need to keep going, so my advice to others is to never give up.
  3. Surround yourself with people that will support you and believe in you. And most importantly, believe in yourself. You know best what serves you and what does not.
