Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michelle Shlafman, Practitioner of Perspectives Center for Holistic Therapy, located in Tucker, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work at a holistic private practice to support mental health in individuals, adults, couples, teens, and children in Georgia. Perspectives Center for Holistic Therapy supports those who experience anxiety, trauma, depression, self-esteem challenges, perfectionism, mood disorders, and other various mental health conditions. Perspectives are extremely unique in that we specifically choose the right client fit, paired with each clinician's specialty. We address the core discomfort of our clients and use natural wellness, integrative interventions, and trained modalities to bring our clients a greater sense of well-being.

Tell us about yourself

I practice holistic psychotherapy and couldn't love my profession more! When I began seeing clients at Perspectives, I knew my job filled my heart with clients' progress and effective outcomes. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for the last two years and in the field of mental health for over a decade. I have utilized holistic methods that support the mind, body, and soul, and I truly believe the blending of these elements helps the whole body attain a deeper sense of alignment. It brings me so much joy to see clients leave the therapy room with a deeper sense of self, more nourished core beliefs that resonate with their souls and no longer need me. My job is to be out of a job with each client, so new clients can come in and receive support and healing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a practitioner at Perspectives and a Supervisor for our intern program, my biggest accomplishment is networking to bring clients into our practice for a perfect client-clinician fit. I appreciate the differences in each of our clinicians and take pride in hiring such diverse groups of individuals to support our incoming clients at PCHT.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Laurie Patrice is the founder of Perspectives Center for Holistic Therapy. I would truthfully say a challenging part of working at Perspectives, would be our process of hiring. Sometimes there are so many wonderful individuals we would like to hire to work with us; however, there is only so much space for our intern program. We hope to continue to expand the practice as the years move forward and continue to present well-skilled clinicians to the public!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Set an intention from your heart and soul for what you'd like to bring into your business, whether it be the product, clients, or energy.
  2. Be mindful in whatever it is you're doing, and ask for help! Find a mentor or coach, if possible, so you have the ability to ask questions when needed.
  3. Self-care is important. When starting your own business, much time will be dedicated to the job itself. Don't forget to take care of yourself!
