What's your business, and who are your customers?
Wedding Story Writer is an all-inclusive boutique business catering to couples who want heirloom wedding products handmade in the USA that tell their love story. Our customer base is 90% US based, but we do have clients around the world, too. They come to us because they prefer white glove service and don’t want to be an order number.
Tell us about yourself
I fell in love with weddings at a very young age—three! My mother pulled out her wedding gown, and I asked her to put it on. I was hooked from that moment on. Throughout my youth, I was wedding obsessed, planning my first wedding at age 16, followed by multiple other weddings for friends and family. When I was planning my own wedding in 2001, I knew I wanted custom everything. I made our vow books, wax sealed our invitations and programs, custom-designed jewelry, and my fiancé handmade my tiara. Having that personal touch motivated me for my wedding, so it continued with the celebrations of other couples. I want them to feel special and have the best possible products or services.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We were named in People Magazine a few years ago for making vow books and other items for a couple starting on The Bachelorette. It was a beautiful wedding!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing for me is to give up control when I need help in the studio. I know I can’t do it all, but sometimes I find myself trying to do just that.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Create a business plan, stick to it, and revise it twice per year. Also, hire staff who love the job!
