Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Oliva, founder of DolphinsTalk.com, located in Liverpool, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our website covers the Miami Dolphins year-round with original commentary, breaking news, and original podcasts and videos. Our customers are NFL fans but, more specifically, die-hard Miami Dolphins fans who like to follow the team both in season and in the offseason.

Tell us about yourself

Over ten years ago, I wrote for another Miami Dolphins blog, and I was motivated to start my own and be the owner of one. So, I created DolphinsTalk.com. I am motivated by being a fan of the team, first and foremost. Also, being an original voice brings a unique perspective regarding the team that is absent in the marketplace and is the voice of the typical fan in many ways.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Growing the podcast to where it has had over one million listens lifetime over the years and also winning a webbie award for Best Dolphins podcast. Also, doing work that was recognized and respected to the point our site was credentialed by the Dolphins to get press box access.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Managing my time, I would say, is the biggest challenge with owning this website. Covering the NFL has become a year-round job, and news can break anytime. When news breaks, I have to be ready at the drop of a hat to get a news article up on the website, record a breaking news podcast, and also be active on social media platforms. Also, knowing when I need to delegate and have others on my team step in to carry some of the workloads so I don't overwork myself and burn myself out.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Number one, know what you don't know. No one person is an expert in all areas and in all fields and all areas of the business. So, understand your weaknesses and where you will need help. This leads to the second tip, surround yourself with a great team. Find people who can help in areas you are weak in and who have the same passion for the product that you have. My third tip would be to remember to have fun. Yes, owning and running a business is a lot of hard work and can be stressful, but it should also be fun, and you should enjoy what you are doing.
