Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bree Feibischoff, Founder of Miami Sample, located in Miami, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Miami Sample is an online-only sample sale business. We work directly with different brands to help sell their samples and overstock for high discounts. Our customers are mostly women, ages 18-65. A huge range, but we prefer it that way :) Everyone loves a discount!

Tell us about yourself

Prior to starting Miami Sample, I worked in advertising as a copywriter at a large agency in NYC. I moved to Miami and realized that the advertising industry wasn't the same here as it was in NYC (personal opinion) and found myself flying back to NYC on the weekends for sample sales. A combination of both factors led me to leave the ad industry and start a sample sale business. The rest is history.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Miami Sample launched on March 1, 2020. As the entire world knows, there couldn't have been a worse or scarier time to start a business. COVID forced us to close our doors literally two weeks after we launched and opened a 5,000-square-foot store. I immediately pivoted to online sample sales, which didn't exist at the time, to try to keep my business afloat. I had worked too hard just to watch it crumble after two weeks.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Never being able to completely turn off. Even when I'm relaxing, Miami Sample is running through the back of my head at all times. I'll be watching a movie and find myself missing half of it because I'm drifting off into a brainstorm. I guess it comes with the territory!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't listen to anyone who tells you not to.
  2. Mistakes are just learning curves. However, some may be expensive learning curves, haha.
  3. Know when to pivot. We often want to force something we want to work on, but absorb what's going on inside the business, listen to feedback, and adjust.
  4. Be so proud of yourself! If a business is successful, it looks so easy to outsiders. Only you know how much work goes into it, and that's okay!
