What's your business, and who are your customers?

At metaFox, we provide empowering tools for people development. We help coaches, psychologists, social workers, and other human-centered professionals to connect to their clients in more meaningful ways. Often we use pictures, icons, drawings, and photography in our tools that cut deeper than words. Our tools help build emotional intelligence and the skills surrounding the topic: from understanding and naming your own feelings to managing others' emotions, e.g., in a leadership position.

Tell us about yourself

What got us started was the passion for developing people. And this still motivates all our team today. After all, the biggest obstacles for our society today are not of technological nature but lie within the communication and understanding of ourselves and others. The meaning and positive impact of our work are what motivate me every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building an organization from an idea. Finding the right people that fit our values, vision, and mission and then going together. "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You have to be able to do what is necessary and leave what is pleasant/easy to others. You always have to learn new things and teach what you learned to people in the organization. Only in this way can you expand the borders of what you think is possible today.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find someone to start a business with. Someone that is not like you. Someone you can fight with. Also, learn to manage conflicts and find your part in them. Otherwise, that cannot work. If you go together, you are never alone; always have someone that has your back - and your personal coach - all in one person.
  2. Just start. Put some play money on the table. And get doing. If you don't act, you will only have thoughts but no results.
  3. Optimize. Once you have started and made the first mistakes, learn from them. See what you can optimize after a proof of concept. And from there, expand, fail, and optimize more. That is all.
