What's your business, and who are your customers?
Melvin Creative is a 20-year-old multi-disciplinary design agency based in Glasgow, Scotland. We work with small, medium, and large enterprises, and we provide highly creative (and award-winning) solutions to help our clients reach their business goals. Melvin Creative works with clients from many different sectors - food and drink, technology, hospitality, travel, tourism, and the third sector, to name just a few! Our knowledge and experience help us to stand out from the crowd and makes us an attractive proposition for new clients as well as established ones. We love what we do, and we love a challenge!
Tell us about yourself
Starting a business was never a plan! At the age of 30, I found myself seemingly too old for the creative industry, so I had two options: get a job doing something else or start my own business. I chose the latter. I absolutely love graphic design especially tricky or difficult projects, as they're the ones that stretch me and get me out of my comfort zone. The sense of achievement you feel when you've created something which nails the brief and delights the client is amazing and makes you crave more!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having survived the global financial meltdown of 2008, the recent COVID-19 pandemic, and many other unexpected bumps in the road, my biggest accomplishment must simply be that Melvin Creative is still very much alive and kicking after 20 years - what doesn't kill us makes us stronger!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It can be hard sometimes to get the work/life balance correct - we need to be disciplined enough to know when to stop, switch off our tech, take a breath and savour life!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Provide great service. Stay focused and Keep smiling!
