Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melissa Lainn, Integrative Nutrition Health & Wellness Coach based in Parys, South Africa.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Melissa Lainn Wellness is a holistic health coaching business centered around helping people create lasting changes to their health and wellness in a holistic and lasting way.

Tell us about yourself

I started Coaching after going through my own spiritual awakening and starting my life over at the age of 25. I went through my own healing journey of childhood trauma, chronic allergies, eating disorders, mental health issues, and more, and I wanted to share what I had learned and how healing in a holistic way - body, mind & spirit - can create real and lasting changes. I believe that there is a healing modality and a simple way of healthy living that suits every person, and I love helping and guiding individuals and groups to find a way of living that creates true transformation.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My clients healing and enjoying life after our coaching journey is by far my greatest accomplishment, as well as being able to Coach full-time after working four jobs only two years ago. I am also honored to have been featured in Women's Health Magazine (SA) twice and to have a successful self-healing podcast, the LifeKraft Podcast, where I speak to people who inspire me weekly.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Really believing in yourself. We get bombarded by so many negative suggestions every day, and we internalize other people's fears and limitations from a young age. Really 'betting on yourself' and having your own back has been the hardest lesson and the most rewarding one to learn.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get a Coach or a Mentor that can help 10x your journey. They can see your blindspots and have the ability to help you with strategies that would take you years to learn.
  2. Invest in yourself. Business is 20 % strategy and 80% mindset. Do the inner work, learn how to create a fulfilling life, and learn how to take care of your health because, at the end of the day, you are your greatest asset.
  3. Have fun with it. We tend to overlook the power of joy, enjoyment, and fun when it comes to something we care a lot about, like a business which can lead to problems in the long run, a lack of fulfillment, and burnout. Have fun creating, facing, and overcoming challenges and bringing something new into the world through your business. Fun is something you create, and it's quite powerful when added to your everyday life.
