What's your business, and who are your customers?
My photography studio specializes in photographing women during all stages of their lives. We offer maternity sessions, motherhood sessions which also include families, and boudoir and beauty sessions. Our focus is to help build confidence and self-love through these photography genres. We believe all women should have their portraits taken with and without their families to celebrate their achievements, lives, and their true and authentic self.
Tell us about yourself
I am a mother of 4 children. I started documenting my children's lives a few years ago. From there, I started creating more artistic and creative portraits, mostly of my daughters. Slowly, I realized I wanted to create for other women and mothers. I am passionate about photographing women because I want all women to feel amazing, empowered, and beautiful. I have struggled with body dysmorphia and eating disorders before. Having two daughters now made me realize how important it is to cultivate confidence, self-love, and self-value detached from the number on the scale or the imperfection on the body. I wanted to serve women to allow them to see themselves as beautiful beings with imperfections. After all, the scares, the rolls, the bumps, and all the other things we judge so harshly about ourselves make us who we are today.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is having my photographs featured in PhotoVogue, Humber College, and winning an international art competition with one of my images of my daughter and son.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest aspect of being a business owner is definitely the financial stress and hurdles. A business like mine does not have a month-to-month reliable income which means the hustle is on 24/7.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top tip I would give to someone starting and growing a business would be to never give up. You will face so many no's and failures during your journey. At times, these negative things will want to make you quit. But don't give up. Build a community around you, reach out to people to help you connect with others, and give more than you take. Good product, excellent service, and showing up every day to get the job done will get you where you want to go. And don't forget to take some time off once in a while.
