Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Meg Heppner, a personal life coach, based in Surrey, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Life Coach, Hypnotherapist, Women's Circle Facilitator, and the host of The Art Of Being H(YOU)man podcast. I'm passionate about walking with women who want more out of life than just the status quo! I love creating spaces where women can slow down and process all the things that are influencing and controlling their lives - their everyday thoughts, emotions, and the stories they have been telling themselves. Spaces where they can look at their inner world, gain valuable insight and then reclaim their personal authority, and make conscious decisions that transform the way they experience their lives! I help women show up in the world with more love, less ego, more compassion, less judgment, more vulnerability, less shame, more emotional agility, and less fear!

Tell us about yourself

I started my work almost ten years ago - after spending most of my life on my own personal healing/personal development/spiritual journey, there came a time when it turned from I want this to be about 'me' to I want this to be about 'we.' After going inward for long enough, I was finally ready to go outward and journey with others as they traversed their path. Seeing women empowered and open up to their own enoughness is one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever been a part of! I also know that as more and more women become empowered, our toxic culture will experience healing as well - it's all so motivating and inspiring!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Personally, I think that the fact that the work that I do doesn't only help in creating healthier humans but also creates community and healthier relationships for people is my biggest accomplishment. I never wanted my work to only be about personal healing but also about collective healing.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Like anyone, I can get bogged down with the grind - returning emails, setting up schedules, and making things run smoothly; it can be draining.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Finding a big why is the most important thing I can think of. That is what is going to keep you going on hard days.
  2. Accept the hard days and don't let them make you doubt what you're doing - if you have a vision for something new and it hasn't come to fruition yet, it can be easy on hard days to give up - don't! Push through!
  3. Learn to hear your own voice! All too often, when you have a new business that you are trying to promote, everyone has an opinion on how you should do it, and some of their ideas are good, but so often, you can find yourself doing things that don't feel authentic because you stopped listening to your own voice!
