Healing for Body • Mind • Spirit - Medikha

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashlee Jane, Owner of MediKha, located in Boise, ID, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a naturopathic physician with a holistic approach to drugless therapy, spending quality time understanding my patients and their healthcare struggles so we can find a way to a cure, get them off of their medications, and emphasize a vibrant quality of life.

Anyone who wants to feel better than they do now - physically or mentally - will benefit from my care. I offer a wide array of modalities because no person deserves a 1-size-fits-all approach to well-being.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a person who doesn't like swallowing pills! From a young age, I didn't select that model. I spent years finding a healing profession that I felt I fit in - as a provider and a patient - and offers me a massive bucket of tools to choose from so I can help my patients how they like to receive care.

That means I've trained in some hands-on healing touch, some counseling approaches, supplements, pharmacy, energetic remedies, flower essences, topical applications, and more.

I'm a puzzler and a problem solver. I like to hear the problem and then craft a remedy approach that will precisely fit the person in front of me - individualized every time. I'm driven to solve problems creatively so that my patients feel comfortable and happy with their treatment plan, and I feel inspired to give it to them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting a new business at the start of the pandemic! Everyone was going home to quarantine in June of 2020, and I used that time to become a business owner.

I have been successful, operating without a side hustle and borrowing. I have to thank my patients for this - it's fantastic and humbling to connect with people who care about their health the way I do and trust me with their healthcare journey.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having enough time to do all the things! I'm entirely solo - that means I'm not only the physician, but the receptionist, the accountant, the inventory manager, and the marketing guru. It can be hard to get me on the phone because I spend so much time talking to people already, but I've created systems that work most of the time, and maybe someday I'll have no choice but to grow!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself - we're all doing our best and making it up as we go.
  2. Start now - being "ready" is a myth. You have to start with what you have right now.
  3. Do what excites you - it's tough to sell if you don't believe what you're doing. If you love what you're doing, you're a magnet for your customers.
