What's your business, and who are your customers?
We specialize in medical experts for legal cases. My customers are Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury attorneys mostly, but we do also get some public defenders for criminal cases.
Tell us about yourself
I first started my business when I grew weary of working for someone else. Being a Physician Assistant in corporate medicine wasn't what I wanted my life to look like. I started out by putting myself through law school and thereafter making connections with local attorneys. I also started offering my husband's services as an expert. Things just spiraled from there. It seemed I had a unique skill to bridge the worlds of law and medicine and help my colleagues find the right medical experts to match their fact patterns.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Expanding to include multiple experts to a point where I could no longer run things on my own and needed to hire help. Relinquishing control was extremely difficult because I am very particular about how I want my business to run, but I have been extremely fortunate to find some really amazing people to add to my team.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Finding decent help, people who care about your business as much as you do and want to see it succeed.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Do things on a cash basis. If you don't take out loans and get yourself in debt early, you have a better chance of succeeding. Spend the money as you make it, and reinvest in yourself and your company. Don't be afraid to take some risks along the way. Without a little risk, there can be no gain.
